What's Happening in Will County

Workforce Center of Will County releases March workshop and event schedule

The Workforce Center of Will County has released the March schedule for workshops and events. From developing or updating a resume, to brushing up on interviewing skills, the center offers these services and others at no cost to Will County residents.

Adult Education Information Session - will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Weds. March 25 and will explain the services offered by the Joliet Junior College Department of Adult Education and Literacy, including English as a Second Language, basic skill development classes, high school equivalency (GED) classes, volunteer tutor program, and other college classes. Advance registration is required by calling Michelle Lyman at (815) 280-1335, mlyman@jjc.edu or Cathy Kramer at (815) 280-1324, ckramer@jjc.edu.

High School Equivalency (GED) –will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tues. March 3, 17, 24, and 31 and at 1:00 p.m. on Thurs. March 5, 19, and 26. This course prepare participants for the high school equivalency test and will review math, science, English, reading, writing, and social studies. Call (815) 280-1333 to register or for more information.

Industry Orientation – career scholarships are available to residents interested in high demand occupations who meet eligibility requirements. Visit www.jobs4people.org to register or call (815) 727-4444 to attend an industry orientation. Advance registration is required.

Professional/Financial/Information Technology orientation will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thurs. March 5 and Mon. March 30 as well as 9:00 a.m. on Tues. March 17.
Manufacturing/Transportation/Distribution/Logistics orientation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tues. March 3 and at 1:30 p.m. on Mon. March 16.
Healthcare orientation will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Mon. March 2 and Thurs. March 19 as well as 9:00 a.m. on Tues. March 31.

On the Job Training Orientation – is available to Will County residents who are interested in learning new skills on the job in a range of high demand industries. These are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Mondays, March 9, 16, 23, and 30.

Alison.com Orientation ¬– 2:00 p.m. on Mon. March 2 offers more than 1,000 free online courses to help learners earn a certificate or diploma in more than 300 categories. Orientation includes an overview of courses, how to set up an Alison account, and how to earn a certificate or diploma.




Illinois JobLink Workshop - this workshop will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tues. March 3 and Thurs. March 19 as well as 2:00 p.m. on Mon. March 9 and Tues. March 24 and will teach attendees how to register with JobLink by creating and uploading a resume and tips for getting the most views from employers.

Job Club Toolkit – will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thurs. March 5. This networking event allows job seekers to share job leads, learn job search skills, and hear from guest speakers.

LinkedIn Lab – Starting Your Profile – 1:30 p.m. on Mon. March 16. A hands on approach to create a basic account to assist in job searches. Come dressed to impress for a photo to add to you LinkedIn account.
LinkedIn Lab – Maximize Your Profile – 2:00 p.m. on Mon. March 16. Learn how to use LinkedIn features and best practices to successfully find a job.

Master Your Job Search Workshop – 2:00 p.m. on Fri. March 20 – review basic job search techniques, networking, using the Internet in job search, and salary negotiation.

Math Review – 10:00 a.m. on Weds. March 11 and Tues. March 17 will give a review of basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, fractions, decimals, percent and integers.

Microsoft Office Suite –
Word – 10:00 a.m. on Tues. March 3 and 2:00 p.m. on Mon. March 30 -- learn how to create a professional resume and cover letter.
Power Point – 2:00 p.m. on Thurs. March 12 -- learn create a professional presentation.
Excel – 10:00 a.m. on Weds. March 25 -- learn the basics of creating a spreadsheet.

Networking Tools for Today’s Job Market – 10:30 a.m. on Mon. March 23-- learn to use a variety of tools to maximize your network capabilities. Includes how to create and use business cards and social media outlets in job search.

Standout Resumes Workshop – 2:00 p.m. on Weds. March 4 -- learn the basics of creating a competitive resume and cover letter. Resume reviews are available on request.

Successful Interview Workshop – 10:00 a.m. on Thurs. March 12 -- learn to prepare for an interview and make a positive impression.

JOB FAIRS
The Workforce Center of Will County hosts job fairs. Job seekers may talk with multiple businesses during the job fair about a variety of positions.

4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Tues. March 17

Speaker from the National Institutes of Health to discuss new initiative in treatment for opioid use disorder

Dr. Rebecca Baker, Director, National Institutes of Health, Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) Initiative, will discuss this aggressive, trans-agency effort to speed scientific solutions to stem the opioid crisis at the 2020 Hero Helps Community Forum, slated for Friday, April 24 at the Edward Hospital Athletic and Event Center in Romeoville. HEAL is an approach to develop and deliver scientific tools to end the opioid crisis and prevent it from reoccurring.
