I am honored to serve as your Will County Executive. As a lifelong resident of this great county, I have witnessed many changes as we have evolved from an ag-community to a major hub in the global distribution market.  I am dedicated to building upon this status but I am equally dedicated to maintaining the quality of life for the nearly 700,000 residents and thousands of businesses and organizations that call Will County home.

Workforce Center of Will County releases February workshop and event schedule

The Workforce Center of Will County has released the February schedule for workshops and events. From developing or updating a resume, to brushing up on interviewing skills, the center offers these services and others at no cost to Will County residents.

Adult Education Information Session - will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Weds. Feb. 19 and will explain the services offered by the Joliet Junior College Department of Adult Education and Literacy, including English as a Second Language, basic skill development classes, high school equivalency (GED) classes, volunteer tutor program, and other college classes. Advance registration is required by calling Michelle Lyman at (815) 280-1335, mlyman@jjc.edu or Cathy Kramer at (815) 280-1324, ckramer@jjc.edu.

High School Equivalency (GED) –will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tues. Feb. 4, 11, and 25 and at 1:00 p.m. on Thurs. Feb. 6, 13, 20, and 27. This course prepare participants for the high school equivalency test and will review math, science, English, reading, writing, and social studies. Call (815) 280-1333 to register or for more information.

Industry Orientation – career scholarships are available to residents interested in high demand occupations who meet eligibility requirements. Visit www.jobs4people.org to register or call (815) 727-4444 to attend an industry orientation. Advance registration is required.

Professional/Financial/Information Technology orientation will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thurs. Feb. 6 and at 9:00 a.m. on Fri. Feb. 21.
Manufacturing/Transportation/Distribution/Logistics orientation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tues. Feb. 4 and at 2:30 p.m. on Thurs. Feb. 20.
Healthcare orientation will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Mon. Feb. 3 and 9:00 a.m. on Tues. Feb. 18.

On the Job Training Orientation – is available to Will County residents who are interested in learning new skills on the job in a range of high demand industries. These are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Mondays, February 3, 10, and 24.

Alison.com Orientation ¬– 10:30 a.m. on Tues. Feb. 18, offers more than 1,000 free online courses to help learners earn a certificate or diploma in more than 300 categories. Orientation includes an overview of courses, how to set up an Alison account, and how to earn a certificate or diploma.

Illinois JobLink Workshop - this workshop will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thurs. Feb. 6 and Mon. Feb. 24, 10:30 a.m. on Fri. Feb. 14 and Thurs. Feb. 20.and will teach attendees how to register with JobLink by creating and uploading a resume and tips for getting the most views from employers.

Job Club Toolkit – will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Weds. Feb. 19. This networking event allows job seekers to share job leads, learn job search skills, and hear from guest speakers.

LinkedIn Lab – Starting Your Profile – 9:00 a.m. on Thurs. Feb. 13. A hands on approach to create a basic account to assist in job searches. Come dressed to impress for a photo to add to you LinkedIn account.
LinkedIn Lab – Maximize Your Profile – 9:30 a.m. on Thurs. Feb. 13. Learn how to use LinkedIn features and best practices to successfully find a job.

Master Your Job Search Workshop – 10:30 a.m. Tues. Feb. 25 – review basic job search techniques, networking, using the Internet in job search, and salary negotiation.

Math Review – 10:00 a.m. on Tues. Feb. 11 and 2:00 p.m. on Mon. Feb. 24 will give a review of basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, fractions, decimals, percent and integers.

Microsoft Office Suite –
Word – 2:00 p.m. Mon. Feb. 3 and 10:00 a.m. on Tues. Feb. 25 -- learn how to create a professional resume and cover letter.
Power Point – 2:00 p.m. on Mon. Feb. 10 -- learn create a professional presentation.
Excel – 2:00 p.m. on Thurs. Feb. 20 -- learn the basics of creating a spreadsheet.

Networking Tools for Today’s Job Market – 2:00 p.m. on Thurs. Feb. 27 -- learn to use a variety of tools to maximize your network capabilities. Includes how to create and use business cards and social media outlets in job search.

Standout Resumes Workshop – 10:00 a.m. on Fri. Feb. 7 -- learn the basics of creating a competitive resume and cover letter. Resume reviews are available on request.

Successful Interview Workshop – 2:00 p.m. on Tues. Feb. 11 -- learn to prepare for an interview and make a positive impression.

JOB FAIRS
The Workforce Center of Will County hosts job fairs. Job seekers may talk with multiple businesses during the job fair about a variety of positions.
1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., Weds. Feb. 5
4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Weds. Feb. 19

Chicago St., Joliet will be open, a limited number of people will be allowed inside which includes staff, Commissioners, applicants, and the public. Applicants and the public are encouraged to participate remotely by attending the virtual meeting, submitting comments before the meeting via email, or calling in during the meeting.
