I am honored to serve as your Will County Executive. As a lifelong resident of this great county, I have witnessed many changes as we have evolved from an ag-community to a major hub in the global distribution market.  I am dedicated to building upon this status but I am equally dedicated to maintaining the quality of life for the nearly 700,000 residents and thousands of businesses and organizations that call Will County home.

Please explore our website which is filled with important information about services and departments within the County Executive office as well as connections to other county officials’ websites.

Will County is diverse, vibrant, and filled with hard-working people. We have room to grow and we look forward to a great future.

Will County Executive Walsh encourages residents to access the county GIS site for information about local activities

As temperatures drop and fall is upon us, Will County Executive Larry Walsh wants residents to know about a special feature available on the county’s GIS site - a detailed map of fall and Halloween events across Will County.

“I am proud our website has the most up-to-date information regarding the county events,” said Walsh. “Halloween is a fun time for both children and adults. This page on our website lists interesting and entertaining events for all ages.”

According to Becky Colwell-Ongenae, GIS Manager, the idea was brought to the department by Gretchen Fritz, District 5 County Board member. Fritz noticed a holiday mapping application used by another county and asked if Will County could do something similar. Colwell-Ongenae said the initial idea of just listing holiday lights in December evolved into a multitude of applications including interactive maps for Memorial Day, July 4th celebrations, Halloween Happenings, and holiday lights displays.

“Jared Pilbeam, GIS technician, designed this map application to show how we celebrate fall in this area.” Colwell-Ongenae said. “Keep your eyes peeled for more from Will County GIS with our Holiday Lights interactive map scheduled to come out after Thanksgiving.”

The Halloween Happenings page can be accessed directly at https://www.willcountyillinois.com/GIS. The interactive maps lists the address, hours, and activities for each “spooktacular” location.

Anyone or any organization, public or private, wishing to list an activity open to the public or site on this webpage should send a short description, date, time, and an image to gis@willcountyillinois.com.
