County reminds residents to keep pool safety, permits in mind

WILL COUNTY – Dreaming about having a swimming pool in the backyard to cool off in on hot summer days?

A friendly reminder to residents in unincorporated Will County -- they need to apply for a permit before starting work on either an above-ground or in-ground swimming pool.

Brian Radner, Development Services Division Director with the Will County Land Use Department, said the rules are designed to keep both people and property safe.

Residents can apply for permits in person at the Land Use Office, 58 E. Clinton St., through the mail, Fax, email or through the department’s public portal, willcountylanduse.com/portal.

All permit applications must include a plat of survey depicting the proposed location of the pool and the manufacturer’s specification for the pool and pool equipment. The department also needs plans or installation instructions for all in-ground pools.

For a list of requirements and specifications for construction of a pool, visit the county’s website at willcountylanduse.com.

The Land Use Department asks residents to contact the department if they plan to undertake any home improvement project to see if a building permit is required and to make sure the project is done in compliance with County ordinances.
