I am honored to serve as your Will County Executive. As a lifelong resident of this great county, I have witnessed many changes as we have evolved from an ag-community to a major hub in the global distribution market.  I am dedicated to building upon this status but I am equally dedicated to maintaining the quality of life for the nearly 700,000 residents and thousands of businesses and organizations that call Will County home.

Please explore our website which is filled with important information about services and departments within the County Executive office as well as connections to other county officials’ websites.

Will County is diverse, vibrant, and filled with hard-working people. We have room to grow and we look forward to a great future.

America Recycles Day Nov. 15

Will County Executive Walsh reminds residents of importance of responsible recycling

Since 1997, America Recycles Day has increased awareness of both recycling and buying recycled products. This year’s America Recycles Day is Friday, November 15 and Will County is joining communities across the nation to encourage residents to focus on basic recyclables: plastic bottles, jugs, and tubs; glass bottles, steel and aluminum cans, empty cartons, and varieties of clean dry paper such as newspapers and cardboard boxes.

“Responsible recycling keeps precious resources out of our landfill, creates jobs, and is good for the environment,” said Will County Executive Larry Walsh, who oversees the Land Use Department. “I encourage all Will County residents to do their part to protect our natural resources.”

Over the years, information about recycling items has changed and caused confusion. To help residents understand the protocol, Will County created a website: www.WillCountyGreen.com to explain best practices for recycling. The site lists items accepted for recycling across the county as well as times and dates for special recycling events. Suggestions such as returning plastic bags to grocery stores for recycling, taking unwanted electronics to one of the many locations that recycle these items, as well as options for recycling household hazardous wastes are also included.

“In addition to our website, we also share this important information on our Facebook page at Will County Green,” said Marta Keane, recycling specialist for Will County. “Anyone who has any recycling questions can also call our office (815) 774-4343, 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. We are here to help.”
