Workforce Services Division of Will County launches Resume Gallery

JOLIET – Area job seekers have another way to get their resumes in front of businesses with positions to fill thanks to the unveiling of the Workforce Services Division’s Resume Gallery.

Will County WSD launched its most recent no-cost offering for residents looking for work on Jan. 20. It was designed in response to discussions with businesses and workers looking for a way to keep resumes of local people from becoming buried on large sites, said Scott Kettman, Business Services/Special Projects Supervisor for WSD.

     “We think this would be another great tool for job seekers and businesses to make that match,” said Kettman.

To take advantage of the County Resume Gallery, those looking for jobs should go to www.jobs4people.org and click on the Resume Gallery tab. From there, a resume can be attached.

An uploaded resume goes to WSD staff for review before it is posted, said Kettman. Staff members may make suggestions on improving the resume to make it more competitive before it is put on the gallery.

     “While unemployment is down in Will County, many area businesses still need qualified people to fill their openings,” said Kettman. “For the fourth quarter of 2014, we had in excess of 3,400 new job postings on our job board.

     “It is critical to have a well-organized and well-written resume when applying for a position,” he continued.

In keeping with what is taught in WSD’s monthly resume writing workshop, job seekers are encouraged to have multiple resumes.  Each person can post up to three on the Resume Gallery reflecting skills that could attract a different employer. For instance, Kettman explained, someone who has experience in manufacturing might also have welding skills that could attract a different employer, but still be a position the job seeker would want.

A resume tip sheet is also available on the WSD website at www.jobs4people.org.
