Will County Executive Walsh commends organized labor for excellent work on new county courthouse

On December 19, the one year anniversary of the groundbreaking of the new Will County Courthouse, County Executive Larry Walsh met with members of organized labor on the tenth floor of the new structure to thank them for the diligent work over the past year.

“There has been astonishing progress on this project in just one year’s time,” Walsh said. “We are thankful for the many local members of organized labor who have worked tirelessly and without any incidents on this courthouse. It is exciting to see how this courthouse has become a focal point for downtown Joliet.”

The demolition of the former First Midwest Bank building and the foundation for the new building were completed in February of 2018. A topping off ceremony in November signified completion of the building’s steel structure. After just ten months, the mirrored siding is being installed on the outside of the building. Good weather and safe conditions have allowed for this significant progress. The total project cost is estimated at $215 million.

The 10-story, 370,000 square feet building occupies an entire city block. The structure will be energy efficient, use sustainable materials, and be filled with advanced technology to better serve the citizens and those who do business in Will County.

“Our new county courthouse is a welcome addition to Joliet, our county seat,” said Walsh. “We are proud of the partnership with the City of Joliet to make this vision a reality.”
