CALL TO ORDER

Chairman John Kestel called to order the meeting of the VAC Commission at 6:00PM on April 14th, 2014 in the VAC board room.

 
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:  Led by Chairman Kestel.

Chaplain Mlynek led in the opening prayer.

 ROLL CALL:  The following were present:

 MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING:   March 10th 2014:  Motion to Approve made by Member Walden; Seconded by Secretary Piccolo – Motion Carried.

 ANNUAL REPORTS

 1.      Financial Report: Tony Arellano, Treasurer

Patriots Fund: $1515.43                VAC:  $6734.87

Motion to Approve made by Chaplain Mlynek; Seconded by Member Baskerville – Motion Carried.

 2.      Superintendent Report –Superintendent McNichol

 ·         Superintendent McNichol went over the Expense Budget – Explained categories and budget balance, went over past months expenditures, March hit 113.47% of budget YTD at 36.78%; Discussion Followed

·         Superintendent McNichol went over reporting totals, reported veterans’ financial assistance clientele at 96; Discussion Followed

 §  Motion to Approve made by Treasurer Arellano; Seconded by Ralph Moscarro– Motion Carried.

 NEW BUSINESS:

·         VACWC Bylaw Review – Superintendent McNichol asked that a committee be appointed to review current bylaws and suggest any revisions.

§   Committee members: Treasurer Arellano, Chaplain Mlynek and Ralph Moscarro

·         Travel Card for VSO - Superintendent McNichol stressed the need for a card when VSO’s are required to travel for training this will alleviate the use of one’s own personal funds and wait time for reimbursement from the County.

§  Motion to Approve made by Treasurer Arrelano; Seconded by Member Baskerville

·         Joliet Hospice – Superintendent McNichol shared with the group the Joliet Area Community Hospice  plans for a Veterans Memorial Garden

 OLD BUSINESS:

 ·         Review VAC Support Letter – Superintendent McNichol presented letter to be sent to agencies requesting VAC support

·         Stand Down for Homeless Veterans – Chicago May 30th and 31st

§  Discussion of having a Stand Down in Joliet Area.

 Tom Wilczak – 100 White sox tickets for disabled veterans – June 1st 2014

Ralph Moscarro League of Riders - Pizza and fund raiser for veterans at Manteno Vet Home – June 1st

Will County to accept string lights for recycling at four locations

Traditionally, the day after Thanksgiving is a good time to bring out Christmas decorations and the time people discover non-working string lights. Will County Executive Larry Walsh reminds residents to dispose of these lights in an environmentally friendly way.

The Will County Office Building will be closed on Thurs. Nov. 28 and Fri. Nov. 29 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Normal business hours will resume on Mon. Dec. 2.
