First Earth Day Passport winners named

JOLIET – The Will County Land Use Department’s Resource Recovery and Energy Division has announced the first two raffle winners in the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day Passport event.

William Duffy of Joliet won a $60 rain barrel courtesy of The Conservation Foundation. Rita Harris of Channahon won a $50 gift card from Target.

All raffle prizes have a minimum value of $50 in honor of the 50th anniversary. Additional drawings will be held June 20, Aug. 8, and Sept. 15, every 50 days from the start of the program

The education- and activity-based event is intended to encourage everyone to find ways to help the environment.

Completion of each activity earns a point. After earning 15 points, participants are entered into the raffle drawings. Earn a point just for signing up at www.WillCountyEarthDay.com.

Prizes have been donated by a variety of businesses and non-profits throughout the area to encourage everyone to participate. Top prize is currently a 5th generation iPad from A-Team Recyclers, which will be awarded in September as part of the final round of prizes.

The Forest Preserve of Will County, the Health Department and the South Metropolitan Higher Education Consortium have joined forces with RRE to offer the Earth Day adventure filled with at least 50 ways to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

The Land Use Department is under Will County Executive Larry Walsh’s office and is led by Director David Dubois.
