County Executive Larry Walsh Encourages Public to Weigh In on Transportation Investment Priorities for Will County

Public Invited to Attend January Open Houses

The Will County Division of Transportation will be hosting five (5) Open Houses throughout the County in January for Will Connects 2040, the County's Long Range Transportation Plan. The public is invited to attend one or all of the Open Houses to provide input on transportation investment priorities throughout Will County. This is the second round of Will Connects 2040 public meetings; the first series of Open Houses were held in late Spring/early Summer 2015.

This January, the Open Houses will provide the public an opportunity to provide their input and ask questions about the County's future transportation investments and priorities. County residents, business owners, transit users, bicyclists, and other stakeholders are encouraged to attend and participate. The Open Houses will feature several interactive stations for the public to weigh in on what the future transportation network should look like in Will County. An online transportation survey will also launch on January 14, 2016 to collect input; the survey will be accessible through the project website at www.WillConnects2040.org.

"Our transportation network is vital to the success of Will County's residents and businesses," said Will County Executive Larry Walsh. "That's why planning for our future is more important now than ever. We are moving into a critical phase in the planning process and would like the public to weigh in about transportation investment priorities for the future. I'd like to encourage everyone to join us in January to be part of the conversation.”

The public is invited to attend the Will Connects 2040 Open Houses held at the following locations:

  • January 19th, 4-7PM, Joliet Junior College, 1215 Houbolt Road, Concourse C*1031, Joliet, IL 60431
  • January 20th, 4-7PM, Wilmington City Hall, Council Chambers, 1165 S. Water Street, Wilmington, IL  60481
  • January 26th, 4-7PM, Governors State University, Engbretson Hall, One University Parkway, University Park, IL 60484

About Will Connects 2040:

Launched in early 2015, the Long Range Transportation Plan known as "Will Connects 2040" considers all forms of transportation, including roads, transit (bus and commuter rail), bicycle and pedestrian, aviation, intermodal networks, and freight (truck, rail, and waterborne). The Will Connects 2040 planning process provides an opportunity for the County to evaluate the current transportation system and future transportation needs and challenges. The planning process will lead to the identification of priority improvements to support increased population and business growth and maintain and improve quality of life.

More information about the Plan, the upcoming Open Houses and the online survey is available on the project website: www.WillConnects2040.org
