2021 Hero Helps Community Summit to feature speakers from National Institute for Health & Illinois Department of Human Services

This year’s Hero Helps Community Summit, set for Oct. 15 at the Romeoville Athletic and Event Center, will feature Dr. Rebecca Baker, from the National Institute of Health HEALS (Helping to End Addiction Long Term) Initiative, and David Jones, from the Illinois Department of Human Services, who will speak about national and state initiatives in the continued battle against opioid use.

Workforce Center of Will County releases September Workshops schedule

The Workforce Center of Will County (WCWC) offers a wide variety of services to assist both job seekers and employers with employment needs. These services include classes on resume writing, practicing interview skills, and updating computer proficiency. The center also provides information about career scholarships and on the job training. These services are available from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday in the center’s Resource Room.

New stops added at Joliet Junior College City Center Campus and New Lenox Public Library

The Mobile Workforce Center travels throughout Will County offering a variety of services for job seekers, including computers with internet access for online applications and job searches, the ability to create/revise a competitive résumé and an online job board with listings from Will County businesses. Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant is announcing new protocols around face coverings at Will County Buildings. Starting Monday, August 2, the public, both vaccinated and unvaccinated, will be required to wear a mask or face covering upon entering any county building and during any time spent in county buildings.

While nearly half the population of Will County is fully vaccinated, local officials are cautioning residents to continue COVID-19 precautions as the number of Delta variant cases are increasing. These precautions include frequent hand washing, social distancing and wearing a mask in public places for those who are unvaccinated.

Local Officials Celebrate Houbolt Bridge Groundbreaking

New bridge will provide direct access to intermodals, help alleviate regional truck traffic

After more than a decade of discussions, local officials gathered on July 20 to officially break ground on the Houbolt Bridge, part of the Houbolt Road extension, spanning the Des Plaines River and connecting I-80 to the Centerpoint Intermodal Center.

Will County Approves Five-Year Transportation Improvement Program

The Will County Five-Year Transportation Improvement Program, providing a multi-year plan for countywide infrastructure investments, has been officially approved by the Will County Board.

The Will County Division of Transportation (WCDOT) presented the plan, which will provide over 20 miles of improved highways, 30 reconstructed intersections, and 10 rehabilitated or replaced structure. The $568.6 million investment in local infrastructure will be funded from a mix of federal, state, and local revenue.
