Will County to host annual textile collection event May 11-15
JOLIET – The Resource Recovery and Energy Division of the Will County Land Use Department will host its annual textile collection event Monday-Friday, May 11-15, at the Will County Office Building, 302 N. Chicago St.
Collections bins will be available during normal business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., inside the front entrance lobby. A special outside collection will be held from 6 to 9 a.m. Friday, May 15. Both usable and non-useable items will be accepted.
The County is partnering with St. Vincent DePaul, a non-profit that sells usable items in local thrift stores and recycles fabrics, clothing, and shoes in poor condition
Will County Executive Larry Walsh, who oversees the Land Use Department, said he is proud the county offers this special collection event every year for residents.
“Our residents are more aware of environmental issues than ever and are looking for convenient methods of recycling more items,” Walsh said. “This event offers an opportunity for people to generously donate items in good condition, and keep textile items in poor condition out of our landfill.”
WJOL-AM’s Scott Slocum will host a live broadcast from the County Office Building from 6 to 9 a.m. Friday.
“We really want to encourage people to donate more in general but often, with shoes and clothes, people toss out items that are stained or ripped. This textile collection shows that cloth items, like aluminum cans, can be recycled. They can have a second life as insulation, sound proofing and more,” said Marta Keane, Will County Recycling Specialist.
The textile collection event is one of the many events hosted by the Resource Recovery and Energy Division each year. For more information about other events, visit the website: www.willcountygreen.com. The department is led by Director Curt Paddock.
