Will County Land Use Department

Personnel of the Will County Land Use Department are charged by the County Executive and the County Board to serve as the citizens' land use stewards, providing guidance and assistance for the lifecycle development of the built and natural environments within unincorporated and, in some instances, incorporated portions of the County. The individual and collective efforts of Land Use team members accomplish this charge through efficient and effective planning, regulatory and procedural systems that are applied in a transparent, consistent, equitable and courteous manner.

SmartGov Public Portal

IMPORTANT NOTICE: CURRENT WILL COUNTY LAND USE DEPARTMENT OFFICE POLICIES

Effective November 16, 2020, the Will County Land Use Department will implement the following operational guidelines consistent with recent Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) recommendations and Executive Winfrey’s closing of the Will County Office Building. Operations of the Will County Land Use Department fall under both Essential Infrastructure (construction, sold waste and recycling, etc.) and Essential Government Functions.

We desire to maintain a safe workplace and adopt practices protecting the health of employees and customers while ensuring the continuity of business operations. Therefore, the following is a summary of revised Will County Land Use Department general operational guidelines effective Monday, November 16:

  • All Department Offices are closed to the general public.
  • The Department will maintain normal business hours of Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with reduced in-office staffing. Those Department staff not present in the office will continue to work remotely.
  • The Department encourages customers to use the online permitting portal and to conduct business by mail, email, or telephone. You can access the portal through this link: https://co-will-il.smartgovcommunity.com/Public/Home
  • The Department will make available a drop box in the first floor waiting area for the submittal of hard copy permits and documents. This is extremely limited access.
  • Inspections are being performed in accordance with office protocol which is posted on the portal. Inspection availability may also be limited. You can also use the portal to schedule inspections or call us at (815) 774-3321. Please include your contact information, permit number, property address, the specific inspection(s) being requested, and a desired inspection date.
