Welcome to Solar Source: Will County's Solar Energy Hub

Will County is committed to the development of solar energy that reduces utility costs and supports the environment. In an effort to showcase Will County’s commitment to residential solar development, County Executive Mr. Lawrence Walsh signed a solar statement in 2016 supporting the reduction of barriers to residential solar development initiating Will County’s participation in the United States Department of Energy’s SolSmart program.

SolSmart has inspired simplified zoning ordinance language around residential and utility-scale solar, an “Alternative Energy” option on Will County’s Building Permit Application, the Will County Residential Solar Permitting Checklist & Guide, which explains what information is required and why in order to successfully obtain a building permit for a residential solar array in a timely fashion, and the Will County Solar Source webpage .

Future efforts include enhanced training for permitting and inspection staff and increased public resources regarding solar energy systems.

Solar Source is a hub for all information related to residential solar energy systems including how to explore if solar is right for your residence, costs related to residential solar energy systems, basic education, funding opportunities, building permits, consumer protection resources, and more!
