Land Use Department

Personnel of the Will County Land Use Department are charged by the County Executive and the County Board to serve as the citizens' land use stewards, providing guidance and assistance for the lifecycle development of the built and natural environments within unincorporated and, in some instances, incorporated portions of the County. The individual and collective efforts of Land Use team members accomplish this charge through efficient and effective planning, regulatory and procedural systems that are applied in a transparent, consistent, equitable and courteous manner.

SmartGov Public Portal

The Will County Land Use Department maintains a cloud-based permitting system.  Through this online system, contractors and applicants apply for permits, submit documents, schedule inspections, pay fees, print their permit, and view detailed information regarding their permits.  To access the Will County Land Use Department SmartGov Public Portal, please click on the link below.

Attendee Information for Tuesday, August 4, 2020 Will County Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting

The August 4, 2020 Will County Planning and Zoning Commission meeting will be held in-person at 302 N. Chicago St., Joliet, IL, in the second floor County Board Room. To ensure everyone's safety and to be in compliance with Phase 4 protocols, all attendees (including staff and Commissioners) must wear face coverings, social distancing protocols will be in place, and a maximum of only 50 people will be permitted inside the County Board Room. Attendees who cannot be accommodated inside the room will wait in the common areas, spaced apart, and called in when the case that they are interested in hearing is going to be presented. The podium and other surfaces in the room will be sanitized after each individual's use. As always, the public is welcome to submit comments by emailing zoning@willcountyillinois.com. In the email, please identify which case the comments are related to. These comments will be read into the record by staff.

In accordance with new mitigation measures issued by Governor Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Public Heath to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the September 1, 2020 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting will be held virtually through Webex Events. The meeting begins at 6:30pm. While the Will County Office Building located at 302 N. Chicago St., Joliet will be open, no more than 10 persons may be present at any one time. The public is encouraged to participate remotely by attending the virutal meeting, submitting comments before the meeting via email, or calling in during the meeting.
