IKEA is installing a massive 2.9MW solar array atop its new Joliet warehouse: the largest rooftop solar array in the state of Illinois to date. A whopping 9,000 modules will produce an estimated 3.4 million kilowatt-hours of energy per year, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 2,400 tons annually!
In June, Will County became the first SolSmart designated community in the State of Illinois. SolSmart is a national designation and technical assistance program that recognizes leading solar communities and empowers additional communities to expand their local solar markets.
The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) has recognized Will County as a solar-leading community in the 2017 SolSmart Program. The program is a component of the larger SunShot Initiative, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, a national effort to drive down the cost of solar electricity and support solar adoption.
