Purpose: The Will County Planning and Zoning Commission (PZC), in an advisory role to the County Board, was created in 1985 by an act of the County Board to function as both the Zoning Board of Appeals and Regional Planning Commission. Members review requests for zoning changes (map amendments, variances, special use permits and/or planned unit developments) and new subdivision developments (preliminary plats only). Variances authorized in the Will County Zoning Ordinance can be approved by the PZC. Recommendations for map amendment and special use permit requests are forwarded to the Will County Board's Land Use, Planning, Zoning and Development Committee for their consideration and then to the County Board for a vote along with the recommendation of the Land Use and Zoning Committee.
