Job Summary Will County is located 35 miles southwest of Chicago’s loop. The County is governed by a County Board consisting of 22 elected members and an elected County Executive. The County provides a full range of governmental services associated with County government including the Circuit Clerk, Treasurer, Auditor, State’s Attorney, Sheriff, Merit Commission, Adult Detention, Juvenile Detention, Health, Nursing Home, Office of Emergency Management, Division of Transportation (D.O.T), Land Use, Animal Control, Community and Economic Development, Geographic Information System, Jury Commission, Public Defender, Assessments, TB Clinic, Veterans Assistance, 911 service and County Coroner. There are approximately 2,400 County employees. The County seat is Joliet, and the population of the County is approximately 700,000 residents. Under direction of the County Engineer, the Civil Engineer I serves as Resident Engineer (RE) for various road and bridge, drainage, and similar projects. The Civil Engineer I ensures sound engineering practices and compliance with County, State, and Federal codes, standards, and ordinances. DUTIES AND NATURE OF WORK: • Performs all inspection and documentation duties required of a Resident Engineer; • Carries out field studies to prepare various roadway maintenance contracts; • Performs technical research and computations; • Performs traffic engineering studies; • Develops solutions to engineering problems; • Coordinates with others, to accomplish assigned tasks; • May be designated according to function or specialty; • Provides exceptional communication and customer service to the general public, other County Departments, developers, consulting engineers, contractors, and County officials; • Performs other duties as assigned or required. * Excellent benefits include IMRF Pension Fund; paid vacation, sick, and personal leave accrual; 14 paid holidays for employees under the County Executive’s Office, and medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
Minimum Qualifications• Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited U.S. College or University • Registered as E.I.T. (Engineer in Training) in Illinois OR capability to obtain within 1 year. • Must possess and maintain in good standing, a valid Illinois driver’s license. • Must have proof of automobile insurance as required by law.
Salary Range(Exempt) $64,000 -$70,000 D.O.Q.
