Job SummaryThis position provides professional medical veterinarian services within the County's Animal Control program. The principal function of an employee in this class is to ensure the humane treatment of animals while ensuring public safety regarding animal management issues, pursuant to the Animal Control Act (510 ILCS 5/) and applicable County of Will Ordinance. Under the supervision of the Administrator, will make all decisions regarding rabies observations and veterinary medical concerns for Animal Control and in the event of an emergency, the county. Responsible for the health of all animals in the care of Animal Control. Performs high quality shelter medicine with an emphasis on problem solving through physical examination and use of in-house diagnostics when possible. Triages and stabilizes ill and injured animals. Assesses quality of life of patients. Perform spay and neuter surgeries for adoptable animals. Perform low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for community animals. On call for in person response for large scale cases such as hoarding, blood sports, and commercial breeding situations. On call for consult for cases regarding rabies control and other cases as needed. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Animal Control Administrator, but extensive leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgement and initiative.
Minimum QualificationsGraduation from an accredited College or University with a Doctoral Degree of Veterinary Medicine and State of Illinois Veterinary License. * NOTE pursuant to the Animal Control Act (510 ILCS 5/2.01) (from Ch. 8, par. 352.01) Sec.2.01. Administrator. "Administrator" means a veterinarian licensed by the State of Illinois and appointed pursuant to this Act, or a non-veterinarian may serve as Administrator under this Act. In the event the Administrator is not a veterinarian, the Administrator shall defer to the Deputy Administrator regarding all medical decisions. (Source: P.A. 101-295, eff. 8-9-19.) Minimum 2 years performing veterinary medicine and a minimum 1 year performing shelter medicine. Valid State of Illinois Driver’s License required. Valid active State of Illinois Veterinarian License and appropriate federal drug license(s)
Salary Range$40- $48 per hr.- D.O.Q.
