Sunny Hill sends staff for continuing education

To keep current on the best practices in long-term care, 10 staff members from Sunny Hill Skilled Rehab Center participated in the 55th annual convention and trade show of the Illinois Health Care Association in Peoria.

During the three-day event, staff from the county-owned facility in Joliet had the opportunity to earn up to 17.5 hours of continuing education credit and learn about new products and services available to improve care for senior and disabled citizens.

“The leadership and staff of Sunny Hill place great emphasis on education and

learning new ways to provide the highest level of care to those who are entrusted to us,”

said Karen Sorbero, the facility’s administrator.

We are always looking for a better way to provide care to meet the needs of our residents.”

Sunny Hill staff members who participated in the Sept. 12-14 event were: Sorbero; Becky Haldorson, assistant administrator; Tammy Sangmeister, Social Services director, Larry Lindholm, activity director; Paula Hall, dietician, Bonita Dodson, dietary manager; Brian Cooper, social worker, Jenifer Ealey, social worker; Tracey Silio, social worker; and Jim Zobol, housekeeping and laundry supervisor.

“Attendance at numerous educational sessions and visiting more than 200 vendors in the trade show to learn about various techniques and products takes significant dedication on the part of the participants,” said IHCA Executive Director William L. Kempiners.

“It demonstrates their desire for continuous improvement in the services they provide.”

Approximately 3,000 people attended the annual event hosted by IHCA, which represents more than 410 nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, supportive living facilities, skilled pediatric facilities, and facilities and programs for the developmentally disabled throughout Illinois.
