On The Front Line: A Summit on the Heroin/Opioid Epidemic in Illinois

State officials have identified six (6) Illinois counties on the front line in the fight to end the heroin / opioid epidemic that has claimed countless lives across the Nation. These counties are implementing innovative strategies to reduce opioid deaths. This informative panel discussion will highlight their critical work, focusing on options to expand and support their initiatives.​

Continuing Education

Continuing education units will be available free of charge at the forum, including CEUs for addiction prevention and treatment professionals, CMEs for healthcare professionals, CEUs for social workers.

Will County hires Director for Substance Use Initiatives to lead County’s Prescription Drug & Opioid Efforts

     With the approval of the Will County Board last week, the county has hired Dr. Kathleen Burke as Director for Substance Use Initiatives.  In this role, Burke will serve as project coordinator for the FY 17 Prescription Drug/Opioid overdose-related deaths grant that was awarded by the Illinois Department of Human Services and funded by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA).

Will County recipient of 5 year DHS grant to reduce opioid overdose deaths

Will County received a five year grant from the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS). DHS is the recipient of a federal grant from SAMSHA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) to reduce the number of prescription drug/opioid overdose-related deaths.
